My name is Francesca and I am from Palermo; I have been part of the Committee Addio Pizzo since 2004, when some guys decided to paste some stickers all over the city centre of Palermo. This action meant the awakening of our community on the theme of pizzo. The stickers, in fact, quoted: “a whole population that pays pizzo, is a population with no dignity”.
The aim was to make people talk about racket and extortion, starting from the consciousness and responsibility of citizens. Since 2004 until now, in more than ten years, we have managed to convince one thousand entrepreneurs not to pay pizzo, even thanks to the responsibility of twelve thousand consumers of Palermo, who have decided to do shopping from these brave entrepreneurs, expressing their solidarity with those people choice.
Addio Pizzo Travel was born in 2009, in order to implement the anti-pizzo concept to the tourism. Travel packages, touristic services, cultural itineraries are only offered by those companies that join Addio Pizzo circuit. We try to give another image of Sicily, we want to eliminate the stereotype of the “Godfather” and tell about a creative and hardworking Sicily.
It is important for Addio Pizzo Travel to join FAIRSUD project because its mission is exactly to appraise the territory through ethical and virtuous realities whose it is made up of.
Offering on the Internet touristic, associative, volunteer and ethical business experiences coming from different parts of Sicily is the mission of our travel agency; and Addio Pizzo Travel can, probably, give that technical structure that the project needs to reach its aim and sell its touristic product on Modica, Caltanissetta and Palermo, the starting point of FAIRUD project.
